We are delighted to inform you of the 10th anniversary of Plymouth’s annual Respect Festival, "Celebrate Respect", which will take place over the weekend of Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th October 2007. Like last year, the venues for this event are the City Centre Armada Way Plaza and the Plymouth Guildhall. To find out how you can get involved, or volunteer at Respect... Could you be a proud sponsor of the Plymouth Respect Festival 2007
The Respect festival has become the largest and most spectacular celebration of diversity in the South West, and last year attracted over 20,000 visitors from the westcountry and beyond. It is free of charge and its ethos is one of inclusion and respect for difference. Over the two day event the programme includes non stop performances from a range of multi-cultural bands; interactive workshops such as African drumming, Chinese letter painting, silk painting, henna tattooing; and a whole variety of activities for all ages. The festival is traditionally opened by the children’s procession, last year led by the Bhangra Band, Nachdey Hasdey, and the Chinese Lion Dance.
This year’s festival is a very special one, celebrating ten years of Respect. Plans are in place to make this celebration the best one ever, emphasising the richness and diversity of Plymouth. The corporate plans for our city aim to ensure that Plymouth becomes “one of Europe’s finest, most vibrant waterfront cities where an outstanding quality of life is enjoyed by everyone.” The 10th Respect festival symbolises this vision and invites all the residents of Plymouth to enjoy a sense of optimism and potential for real community cohesion. |
